The Civil War is a period of time that
affected many of our ancestors.
On Saturday, Jan 14, 2012 La Nell Shores will present
“Boys in Blue and Gray: Researching your Civil
War era soldiers and their families.” She will offer tips on finding your
Civil War soldiers and some of the Internet sites that have information that may
help you find their service records, pensions and information about their daily
lives. Also ideas for finding the military histories of their units and the
battles or skirmishes in which they fought. For those that have ancestors with
connections to this period of US history, she will discuss some of the War
Between the States lineage societies and what you will need to join them.
We hope
you will come and bring a friend. The meeting will be at the CCOKC Resource
Center located at 3000 United Founders Blvd, Suite 201, OKC, OK. The regular
meeting starts at 9:00 AM and runs to 11:00 AM with a break about 10:00 AM.
Following the regular Genealogy Study Group meeting, people who use or are
interested in learning more about "The Master Genealogist" or "Legacy" genealogy
database programs are welcome to stay another hour for user group meetings of
these programs.
The Genealogy Study Group is dedicated to helping family
history researchers use computers to assist in the search, organization and
publication of information about their family history. We try to schedule a
variety of program subjects so everyone can find something of interest to them.
Your suggestions for future program ideas and volunteers to make presentations
are always welcome.
