S.A.L.T. (Seniors and Law Enforcement Together)
by Troy Segler, Vice President Programs
I want to extend an invitation for you to attend the January 20, 2005 General Meeting of the Computer Club of Oklahoma City. We will meet at 7:00 PM in suite 201 of the Center 3000 Building, located at 3000 United Founders Blvd. Treats and coffee will be provided, along with soft drinks at 50 cents each. Members and guests are cordially invited.
The club is beginning the new year with some new officers and directors. There is room for you to volunteer to be a director and assist us in attracting members and program providers for the new year. Give it a thought and join us in our activities to assist others in the community in learning about the digital age of computing.
Our program this month will be presented by Nancy Galloway. Nancy is our representative for the sheriff’s department on the Triad organization.
Triad is a collaborative effort between the sheriff's office, local police departments and senior citizens working together to reduce and prevent crimes against seniors. The Oklahoma County TRIAD program began in 1997 with 1 full-time coordinator, Nancy Galloway, who has developed it into the strongest program in the state and one of the best in the country. S.A.L.T. (Seniors and Law Enforcement Together) Council is the group which carries out the TRIAD activities. Their goal is to educate senior citizens on crimes directed at their age group and on how to prevent becoming a victim. Currently there are six S.A.L.T. Councils in Oklahoma County, located in Edmond, Warr Acres, Oklahoma City, Del City, Midwest City and Choctaw. Community partners include Integris Medical Center, Secure Horizons, Areawide Aging Agency, Southwestern Bell Metropolitan Health Care Assn, OG&E, Health Back Home Health, Okla. Attorney General's Office, Okla. Co. District Attorney's Office, Fire Departments throughout Okla. County and many others.
Nancy will be talking to us about problems that have been encountered in our county and will provide useful information about what each of us can do to protect us from opportunities for others to take advantage of us.
For directions to our facility, a map exists on this Web site. If you come into the area off North May Avenue and arrive at the United Founders Tower, you have traveled too far west. We are approximately one block west of May Avenue, behind the Hilton Hotel.
If you have not attended a General Session recently, attend one soon and bring a guest!
Coffee and refreshments will be available for the taking and soft drinks are available at a cost of $.50. Invite a friend to join you for this meeting. I wish to thank all those who have regularly attended these meetings. If you have a recommendation for a specific topic or speaker, please drop me a note in the Program Vice President’s mail box just around the corner from the refrigerator.
