Identity Theft is the Crime of the Next Century - Are you Ready?

Ask yourself this question: a decade ago, who would have thought a paper shredder would be part of almost every household, and why? Do you know what methods are being used to steal your hard earned Social Security Checks, Retirement funds, other assets, etc? What can you do about it?

Attorney Generals and other top law enforcement officials are calling identity theft the "Crime of the Next Century." This month we are privileged to have David Bebout, an Identity Theft Expert Consultant with Prepaid Legal, speak to us on the ever-increasing problems of identity theft; how to protect ourselves from it and what to do if it happens.

David Bebout attended Davenport Business College and served our country in the Army during the first Gulf War. After retiring from active military duty, he became aware of another way he could serve his country: by educating the public on how technology has affected the increase of identify theft. In his position with Prepaid Legal Services, Inc., he counsels individuals on how to avoid identity theft. Prepaid Legal offers Identity Theft coverage, among other things, in the event their customers should be victimized.

David's talk should be very informative and entertaining. I am sure he will be glad to entertain any questions you might have on the subject.

For our members, the prizes we have to give away this month are a 1 gig SanDisk Cruzer Mini USB flash drive and a six-sheet, diamond cut paper shredder. Also, we have a free membership to the Computer Club of Oklahoma City for one of our visitors and a 10-pack of CD-RWs in cases for another visitor. Please ask your friends to come and join us for this fun and informative evening.

Coffee and cookies will be served; soft drinks are available for $.50. See you on Thursday, October 19 at 7:00 pm.
