June 2006 General Meeting - Quark Publishing Software
by Troy Segler, Scribe
Brett Field, who has represented Quark publishing software since 1980
and is quite knowledgeable of its capabilities and functions. He
illustrated several methods for composing an article, especially one
involving advertising. Some of the principles are akin to the use of a
high quality photo program. Photos are selected, improved upon, placed
on the document and can be faded in or out, along with written
information. Brett likened it to Adobe’s publishing program and stated
it is the copy of choice for the Daily Oklahoman and the Tulsa World,
among numerous other newspapers and magazines. Many companies use
Quark for their advertising copy.
A number of persons can access the program simultaneously and edit in
real time while other team members are doing their thing. Selection of
font type and color blending was done quite easily.
The layout can be saved in pdf format and distributed to the printer.
This is a great program if you are involved in high quality
publication. You will probably not wish to perform any setup function
the program will not perform.
A copy of QuarkXpress 7 was won by Susan Schmidt. Susan indicated she
already had a project in mind and was elated on winning the drawing
for this item. Carolyn Kirk was the recipient of a Brother plain paper
printer, fax machine. Lauren Jones, a visitor, received a copy of
Click and Burn, while Gary Horton will become a new member of our
Computer Club.
I hope your schedule will allow you to attend the July General
Meeting.
