Smart Computing Program

     by Troy Segler, Meeting Scribe

The publishers of Smart Computing have been responsive to the needs of our computer club for a number of years. Our September general meeting program was provided by Jen Clausen from their sales and marketing organization. Jan is a young lady who demonstrated a great deal of knowledge and enthusiasm for their product. The people attending the SeniorNet Users Group on Thursday morning were enlightened and entertained by Jan and she returned for the evening general meeting.

We have been aware for sometime about the various publications available from Sandhills Publishing, but the support from that publishing group may not have been recognized by some of you reading this review.

In addition to a fine magazine, Sandhills, of Lincoln, NE publishes additional periodicals containing great information. A subscription to any of their publications enables the subscriber to view and print any articles from their repertoire. They also have a knowledge base for conducting a search if your question hasn’t been posted/asked on their Q&A board. If you don’t find an answer that satisfies your consternation, you can always dial their 1-800 number and talk to an expert in Lincoln. Several of our members have reported receiving good information in a timely manner from their help desk. You might not be aware that storage if available for all subscribers to place any articles you might wish to view at a later in a folder under your personal library.

The recently placed leads to many User Groups on their web site that allows us to learn what activities other clubs similar to ours is involved. One of the finer points about Smart Computing is that they only accept 10 pages of advertising with each issue and they are careful that no conflict of interest occurs.

This was a good, informative meeting and both questions and concerns were quickly covered by Jan.

At the evening meeting a set of their latest Reference Series was given to Sue Kern and Carolyn Cook. June Ranney received a free subscription to Smart Computing.

A free membership in the Computer Club was provided to visitor Rayeanne Brown, while Letha DeMoss took home a 10 pack CD write blanks. In addition, member Roy Waller received a computer card with a remote unit that will enable him to view TV on his computer screen and member Hubert Doke was selected as the winner of software package IVideo To Go.

Consider joining us at the general meeting in October. Information regarding that meeting is posted on our current web page.

See you next time. Troy Segler
